What the Wine? #10: Red from Beaulieu Vineyard in “Chef”
What wines are they drinking in “Chef”?
Around the 35th minute of “Chef” Dustin Hoffman (as a restaurant’s owner) comes over to help her waitress (Scarlett Johansson) in an unpleasant situation and tries to appease a disappointed food critic (Oliver Platt) by offering him red wine with these words: “I have a wonderful ’09 that I just opened to let breathe. The last time I was in Napa, at the vineyard, they shipped me this bottle as a gift, and I’ve just been waiting for the right occasion.” We see the logo well enough to identify that it is from Beaulieu Vineyard, but couldn’t decipher exactly which varietal. My best guess that it is 2009 Beaulieu Vineyard BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which is about $125 / bottle. In the movie, we don’t even see whether it was consumed or not but based on what comes next probably not.
Where is it from? Chef is a 2014 dramedy written, directed by, and starring Jon Favreau.
